Detailed Case study

The pandemic is a perfect recipe for accelerating mental health crises and we recognize this.

But being stuck at home most consuming news through social media platforms the pandemic received another name as the biggest Infodemic.

With rampant fake news, misinformation and heightened sensational news, the mental health conditions already aggravating with COVID just became worse. Our team tried to address this issue out of all the rampant problems discussed in this collaborative and incredible class Tech Media and Democracy led by incredible faculty members.

Insight & Theory of change

Our theory of change was to share people's experiences how they are coping within their neighbourhood, sharing resources, building digital solidarity.

Why filter and curate from social media platforms?

Priority towards sensational news

Widespread fake news and non-verified information and no accountability.

Not distributed across your neighbourhood

Reduces anxiety

Social solidarity

Shared hope

Reflections

Team

Working across disciplines in a unique class where we were not only learning about the politics of Technology but interacting with students from various schools in NYC was lovely and most of us who came together as a team became friends and were able to build things quite fast.

Decisions

As a design strategist on the role, I enjoyed innovating product in a design-led sprint model-driven hackathon, since we had to be on our toes facilitating sessions with the team helped in taking decisions early on to drive the product where we intended it to be.

Learnings

Even though the product we built later we felt had many missing parts and was not feasible in the long run, it still was a process of uncreating-

The concept was developed through a Hackathon over a weekend at the end of the class.
